The Chemistry Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides comprehensive clinical laboratory testing that supports the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of patients with cancer and other complex medical conditions. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field or Molecular Genetic Technology OR Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
  • 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
  • 1 year of clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field
  • No experience required with completion of a NAACLS-accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
  • Strong clinical laboratory experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for delivering accurate, high-quality diagnostic testing
  • Ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of critical infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical chemistry testing while ensuring compliance with established laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze patient specimens, evaluate and verify test results, and monitor quality control data.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  • Manage laboratory inventory and accurately document testing information within laboratory information systems.
  • Contribute to laboratory quality, innovation, and continuous improvement by participating in process improvement initiatives, validating new methodologies, laboratory information system updates, and testing platforms.
  • Optimize laboratory workflows and operational efficiency.
  • Support the education and development of students, new employees, and fellows through training and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and fellow laboratory professionals to provide responsive service, resolve laboratory-related questions, and ensure efficient turnaround times.
  • Properly acquire specimen data into the computer system(s).
  • Maintain competency in computer functions in assigned areas.
  • Follow section’s inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents.
  • Analyze and evaluate patient results correctly and appropriately.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and procedures and adhere to regulatory mandates.
  • Store patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.
  • Adjust, prioritize, and organize work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section.
  • Assist peers and supervisors with tasks after completion of assigned work.
  • Adhere to attendance policy, begin work as scheduled.
  • Work independently, utilize resources available to maximize efficiency.
  • Actively participate in training students, employees and fellows.
  • Participate in process improvement projects.
  • Validate and evaluate new methodologies and tests with the help of Laboratory Supervisor and technical support.
  • Validate database for new software or new tests implemented in the laboratory.
  • Coach and mentor students and employees.
