About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tasks, including specimen handling, test analysis, and result reporting. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will ensure adherence to all relevant guidelines and maintain meticulous records of quality control, maintenance, and testing performed. The position requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, computer systems, and quality assurance principles. The successful candidate will also be responsible for training on new procedures, participating in safety initiatives, and potentially assisting with regulatory inspections.

Requirements

Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing.
Good computer skills and ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
Knowledge of QC and QA.
Knowledge of all areas of the laboratory.
Ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
Ability to interact with other departments.
Good customer service skills.
Protect patient confidentiality at all times.

Nice To Haves

BS in Medical Technology preferred.
1+ years of clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing for those with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

Responsibilities

Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
Review and release test results.
Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
Maintain quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or reporting, or notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Report STAT or Critical results to clients according to department procedures.
Answer questions from customers or other lab personnel, if applicable.
Maintain records of all testing performed on-site.
Ensure reagents/test kits have correct received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates.
Review and train on new procedures.
Attend monthly department and additional training/educational meetings.
Participate in all applicable safety training sessions and know the location/use of safety equipment.
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
