The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee/1 with the Midnights Team at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake. This is a 100% FTE position with a night shift schedule. The role involves performing analysis of blood, body fluids, cells, and blood products with accuracy and precision in various laboratory sections, following established procedures, and making critical judgments regarding test results. The position also requires investigating and solving problems, taking appropriate action on critical results, and communicating effectively with healthcare providers. The Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee/1 is expected to complete patient and quality control procedures within defined time limits, coordinate multiple procedures, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines. Teamwork, appropriate use of work time, and cooperation are essential for maintaining workflow and facilitating optimal patient care. This role involves sharing responsibility for emergency coverage, overtime, and call-back needs, as well as maintaining a neat, clean, and efficient work area and monitoring supply stock. Quality assurance activities include performing and documenting quality control, analyzing QC data, instituting corrective actions, verifying QC acceptability, and following maintenance protocols for instruments. The position requires understanding the principles of operation for various laboratory equipment, maintaining basic troubleshooting skills, and exhibiting working knowledge of the laboratory information system. Teaching skills are needed to train medical technology students and new employees, including completing necessary paperwork and providing supervision. Effective communication and customer service are crucial when interacting with the healthcare team. Maintaining competency, keeping job knowledge current, and attending continuing education opportunities are expected. Safe working habits, including knowledge of laboratory safety and universal precautions, are mandatory. The role may also involve performing related duties such as analysis of proficiency testing materials, reagent quality verification, assisting in the development of new procedures, and performing special projects.
