About The Position

This position is responsible for performing high and moderate complexity testing in the core laboratory, following established policies and procedures. The role involves pre-analytical and post-analytical support functions, clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations, and maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment. The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist will also perform and evaluate quality control assessments, document all laboratory activities, and maintain competency in their assigned area. They are expected to take responsibility for self-development, complete mandatory assignments, and actively participate in departmental projects. Collaboration with the laboratory supervisor is key to ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. Additionally, this role involves training students and new team members, assessing their competency, and acting as a resource for other technical staff. The position also requires adherence to policies and standards, including those for safely and securely maintaining Protected Health Information (PHI).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; Requirement specific in CLIA '88 to perform high complexity testing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in other field and Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent are also acceptable.
  • 2+ years Experience in a highly complex laboratory setting

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
  • Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results.
  • Evaluates results of laboratory tests according to laboratory protocols to ensure quality patient care.
  • Documents all laboratory activities according to policies and procedures
  • Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
  • Takes responsibility for self-development
  • Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines.
  • Is active participant in departmental projects
  • Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
  • Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members.
  • Assesses competency of team members as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
