About The Position

Trinity Health Shelby is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join its laboratory team. Qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) may also be considered based on experience, certification, and organizational policy. The position performs laboratory procedures according to protocols consistent with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. It conducts chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, and diagnostic laboratory tests to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical disorders and bodily dysfunction and evaluating patient responses to treatment. The role analyzes and documents test results, reports clinical findings, performs incidental specimen procurement, preparation, and processing, and performs testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Blood Bank. The position is located in Shelby, Michigan (Oceana County), and offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Requirements

MLS (ASCP) certification or MLT (ASCP) certification.
Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.
National licensure as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician through ASCP or AMT.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Receive specimens, clarify test requests, and check specimen integrity and labeling.
Organize, prepare, and process specimens.
Work independently in assigned laboratory departments.
Perform testing, evaluate results, solve problems, document results, and communicate reports as needed.
Assist with training and orientation of new employees and students.
Perform specimen collection duties.
Conduct laboratory tests in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Blood Bank.
Analyze and document test results and report clinical findings.
