The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) is responsible for performing routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The MLT must have a total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity. This role also performs routine and special diagnostic procedures requiring technical skill, judgment, and independent decision-making following established standards, policies, and procedures. It may also involve phlebotomy and accessioning duties, and assisting the Laboratory Supervisor in technical and administrative functions. The work environment is fast-paced and can be interruptive and stressful, with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and other hazardous substances. The position may require on-call duties, weekends, and holidays.
