This position performs routine, moderate, and highly complex laboratory diagnostic tests on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. The results are used to diagnose and treat patients. The role confirms test results and provides physicians with the necessary data to determine the presence, extent, cause, and treatment of disease. The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician follows quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment. They also assist with training new employees and students, perform computer functions on both Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS), participate in continuing education, and assist with inventory control. This role may also involve phlebotomy and accessioning duties, and assisting the Laboratory Supervisor in technical and administrative functions.
