About The Position

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you perform complex laboratory tests that are essential for diagnosing, treating, and preventing medical conditions. You use critical thinking to evaluate and solve problems related to biological specimens and provide interpretation of test results. You serve as an expert when questions arise about results or factors affecting them, and foster effective communication between the laboratory and health care teams. The position is at Flower Hospital in the Laboratory department, with 35 weekly hours on the night shift. External candidates may qualify for a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 with a two-year commitment. The summary describes the general nature and level of work and is not exhaustive.

Requirements

• Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; alternatively, transcripts showing 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including 24 semester hours of medical technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (including 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 in biology, and 12 in chemistry, biology, or medical technology in any combination); or meet an alternate qualification route for Testing Personnel for High Complexity Testing.
• American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) MLS or categorical eligibility at the time of hire, with certification achieved within one year of hire.

• Perform complex laboratory tests to support diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of medical conditions.
• Evaluate and solve problems related to analyzed biological specimens using critical thinking.
• Provide interpretation of test results.
• Answer questions about results and factors that may affect them as a subject-matter expert.
• Foster effective communication between the laboratory and health care teams.
