About The Position

Baptist Health is seeking a Microbiology Medical Lab Scientist II to join their Infectious Diagnostics department at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a PRN (as needed) opportunity, primarily working day shifts with occasional other shifts as needed. The role involves performing professional laboratory work, including chemical and biological tests on patient specimens for medical diagnoses. The Medical Lab Scientist II will operate laboratory instruments, including automated blood culture instruments, and will rotate through Microbiology and Molecular Pathology weekly. Responsibilities include receiving and processing specimens, working with an automated specimen processor, and performing gram stains, stat molecular testing, susceptibility testing, quality control testing, and mycobacteria and fungus testing. The position requires extensive microbiology experience, a 4-6 week training period before independent operation, and comfort working within a large team. A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in Microbiology and Molecular Pathology is required.

Requirements

  • 2 years Medical Technologist Experience
  • Extensive microbiology experience
  • At least 2 - 4 years of experience in Microbiology as well as Molecular Pathology
  • Must be comfortable working within a large team
  • Must have a license or be able to obtain a license within the State of Florida as a Medical Technologist

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Certified Medical Technologist (MT) Preferred
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining expertise and performing technical, specimen collection/processing, LIS, general department, and clerical functions in one or more laboratory sections
  • Maintaining records of performance as defined in the laboratory's general and sectional policy and procedure manuals
  • Maintaining records of performance as defined in the SOP manuals
  • Instructing new employees and students
  • Performing all responsibilities of this job description without on-site supervision
  • Running all laboratory instruments including the automated blood culture instruments
  • Rotation in areas of Microbiology and Molecular Pathology weekly
  • Receiving and processing specimens
  • Processing gram stains
  • Performing stat molecular testing
  • Performing susceptibility testing
  • Performing quality control testing
  • Performing mycobacteria and fungus testing
