This position performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment and responsibility in specialties for which the individual is qualified by education, training, and experience. The role involves supporting the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing and reporting analytical tests, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and meeting quality control requirements. They must comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping, while also adhering to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times for results, including STATs and critical results. The role also includes ensuring proper labeling and dating of reagents/test kits, performing and documenting QC analysis, making quality control decisions, and reporting any issues to supervisory personnel. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is expected to maintain laboratory areas and equipment, complete training, and may assist with training other personnel. They must adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment and engineering controls. The position may involve answering client questions, participating in inspections, and assuming lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
