This position performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment and responsibility in specialties for which they are qualified by education, training, and experience. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for troubleshooting instruments and procedures, supporting quality control, customer service, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and completing special projects. They perform and report analytical tests, ensure quality control requirements are met, and maintain records of patient test results. The role adheres to analytical schedules to meet turnaround times, manages reagents, and makes quality control decisions. They are responsible for reporting any issues with test procedures to supervisory personnel and entering test results into the Laboratory Information System. Maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment, completing training, and potentially assisting with training other personnel are also key aspects of this role. Compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment, is mandatory. The position may involve answering client questions, participating in inspections, and assuming lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.
