This position performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment and responsibility in specialties for which the individual is qualified by education, training, and experience. The role involves supporting the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and completing special projects. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing and reporting analytical tests, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and meeting quality control requirements. They must comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping, while also adhering to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times, including STAT and critical results. Ensuring reagents and test kits are properly dated and managing QC analysis for accuracy are key duties. The role requires making quality control decisions, reporting issues to supervisory personnel, and cooperating with investigations of deviations. Entering test results into the Laboratory Information System, maintaining laboratory areas and equipment, and completing training checklists are also part of the responsibilities. The position may involve assisting supervisors with training, adhering to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements, using personal protective equipment, and answering client inquiries. Participation in regulatory inspections and potential assumption of lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor are also included.
