About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System, Inc. is seeking multiple Medical Laboratory Scientists I for Methodist Fremont Health. This role involves performing venipuncture collection of blood specimens, preparing biological specimens for laboratory analysis, and conducting diagnostic laboratory tests to detect, analyze, and treat diseases and medical conditions. Responsibilities include performing chemical analysis of body fluids, entering data from analysis into computer systems, analyzing laboratory findings for accuracy, and communicating test results to medical professionals. The role also involves preparing specimens and media for cell cultures using aseptic technique, operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment, establishing and monitoring quality assurance programs, completing quality control and PPE compliance documentation, and completing required training to maintain knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agencies. Adherence to the organization's mission, vision, core values, and policies is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science or closely related field from an accredited program OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a MLS Certificate from an accredited program.
  • ASCP, AMT, or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture collection of blood specimens from patients.
  • Prepare biological specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Conduct diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing, and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions.
  • Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal or abnormal components.
  • Enter data from analysis of medical tests or clinical results into computer for storage.
  • Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
  • Communicate test or assessment results to medical professionals.
  • Select and prepare specimens and media for cell cultures, using aseptic technique and knowledge of medium components and cell requirements.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment (and document calibration and maintenance) used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers.
  • Establish or monitor quality assurance programs or activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
  • Complete and document quality control and compliance with PPE guidelines.
  • Complete training required including mandatory and/or CE programs, maintain knowledge and compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies.
