About The Position

This position performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment and responsibility in specialties for which the individual is qualified by education, training, and experience. The role is in the Clinical Laboratory - Microbiology department and operates on the 3rd shift (Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM). The pay range is $32.52+ per hour, with potential shift differentials for second and third shifts. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market/organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or qualifies as a Technologist under 42 CFR § 493.1489.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from NACES or AICE.
  • 1 year laboratory experience and/or training (high complexity testing) in the specialties/sub-specialties in which testing will be performed.
  • Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects: 1-10 lbs frequently, 11-25 lbs occasionally, 36-50 lbs seldom, and over 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Frequent walking and/or standing.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses demanding significant manual dexterity.
  • Required to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish work priorities.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and complete all work assignments even under stressful conditions.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Provide support in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and quality control requirements.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATs or critical results.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates.
  • Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
  • Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of any problems related to test procedures.
  • Report any deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer client or other lab personnel questions.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • Potentially assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor, if qualified and delegated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
