About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Molecular Biology Laboratory will be responsible for performing a variety of Molecular based testing in PCR or FISH. This will include, but not limited to, processing and evaluating patient specimens, and performing, reviewing and documenting test results according to written procedures. In addition, the technologist will perform daily, weekly and monthly QC and preventative maintenance in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor or Medical Director. This position requires one to maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and procedures and engage supervisor, manager, and director as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Molecular Biology or an ASCP approved discipline.
  • ASCP Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification, Cytogenetics (CG) certification, Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or Molecular Biology (MB) certification passed within 24 months of hire.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing of patient samples in assigned FISH and/or PCR area, interprets, reviews and prepares patient test results.
  • May or may not be trained on all benches but is progressively increasing in knowledge and experience.
  • Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results.
  • Performs machine maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshoots problems as required.
  • Ensures that the supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and that they are used efficiently.
  • Maintains all aspects of QC and QA in assigned FISH area relevant to the CAP certification standards.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned.
