About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I possess a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences, Medical Technology or an ASCP approved discipline and must take and pass the ASCP Registry within one year of hire date. As a bench technologist in Microbiology, this person is responsible for processing, evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and perform susceptibilities. This person will also record and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor. This position requires one to maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and engage supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or another ASCP discipline
  • ASCP certification within 1 year of eligibility. If eligible at time of hire then within 1 year of hire date.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and perform susceptibilities.
  • Record and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.
  • Maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and engage supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Conducts inventory counts on assigned areas, restocks supplies as needed, reports supplies to be ordered, and stores received supplies per storage requirements and regulations.
  • Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Performs function checks on analyzers, lab equipment and automation equipment.
  • Completes machine maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshoots problems as required.
  • Works with service representatives as needed to facilitate instrument repairs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
