About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, working in Microbiology, is responsible for processing and evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to established procedures, and conducting susceptibility testing. This role also involves recording and evaluating daily, weekly, and monthly quality control data for review by a supervisor. The position requires maintaining safe work practices, adhering to all regulatory requirements, and engaging with supervisors, managers, or directors as needed. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or another ASCP discipline.
  • ASCP certification within 1 year of eligibility. If eligible at time of hire then within 1 year of hire date.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science.
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience.
  • ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and evaluating patient specimens.
  • Performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures.
  • Performing susceptibility testing.
  • Recording and evaluating daily, weekly, and monthly QC in assigned areas for supervisor review.
  • Maintaining safe work practices.
  • Following all regulatory requirements.
  • Engaging supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Conducting inventory counts on assigned areas, restocking supplies as needed, and reporting supplies to be ordered.
  • Storing received supplies per storage requirements and regulations.
  • Performing function checks on analyzers, lab equipment, and automation equipment.
  • Completing machine maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting problems as required.
  • Working with service representatives as needed to facilitate instrument repairs.
  • Interacting with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
