About The Position

This Medical Laboratory Scientist position specializes in Microbiology with experience performing clinical laboratory testing, identifying and evaluating microorganisms, and supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. The role involves performing testing of patient samples, interpreting, reviewing, and preparing patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director. It also includes maintaining all aspects of QC and QA relevant to CAP certification standards, interacting with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results, and ensuring that supplies used in testing are available and used efficiently. The position may also assist in employee/student training and employee competency as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology
  • ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience, preferably in microbiology
  • Current ASCP and/or CHT (ABHI) certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director.
  • Maintains all aspects of QC and QA relevant to the CAP certification standards.
  • Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results.
  • Ensures that the supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and that they are used efficiently.
  • Assist in employee/student training and employee competency as assigned.
