About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. A Medical Laboratory Chemist I conducts routine and moderately complex laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other body fluids. They operate laboratory instruments, ensure accurate results, and follow strict quality and safety standards in a clinical lab setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's).
  • ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).

  • Previous clinical laboratory experience
  • ASCP certification

Responsibilities

  • Processes and evaluates specimens and performs appropriate tests to assist with detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Records and evaluates daily, weekly, and monthly quality control issues in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.
  • Maintains safe work practices, follows all regulatory requirements and engages supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of assigned section in Core Lab.
