About The Position
A Medical Laboratory Scientist I – Blood Bank is an entry-level laboratory professional who performs testing related to blood transfusion and blood products, helping ensure patients receive compatible and safe blood.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or related discipline.
- Eligible for ASCP Certification or equivalent. Certification must be obtained within a year of eligibility.
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
- Wash red blood cells and platelets
- Perform platelet crossmatching and platelet antibody identification
- Perform daily reagent QC and equipment preventive maintenance
- Issue blood and blood components to the floors
- Assist in training of new staff and students
- Maintain competency and train on all revised and new policy/procedures in a timely manner
- Report any deviation from standard operating procedures to the supervisor in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as needed
