Performs a variety of technical and general duties at an advanced practitioner level. Functions in one or more laboratory divisions independently with minimal supervision. May perform charge duties. This role involves performing routine and/or specialized testing and procedures, operating laboratory instruments, performing quality control, and maintaining related records. The position also includes overseeing the work of other personnel through training, allocation, and monitoring, and potentially participating in research activities and evaluating new products, equipment, techniques, and methodologies. Specific duties include inoculating, cultivating, classifying, and identifying microorganisms; grouping or typing blood; determining blood compatibility; performing chemical and/or immunological tests; counting and describing blood and other body fluid cells; and performing coagulation testing. The role may also involve consulting with medical staff, training other employees, and participating in departmental projects and policy implementation.
