About The Position

Performs various technical and support laboratory duties under the supervision of a Medical Technologist. This role involves specimen processing, test order entry, and providing support to laboratory operations. The Medical Laboratory Assistant ensures quality control, accurate data entry, and maintains a clean and well-supplied work environment. There may also be opportunities to mentor MLA students.

Requirements

• Minimum Associates -or- BA degree in a clinical science -or- enrolled in a current Med Tech program
• Requires decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a fast pace and high-volume environment.
• Compliance with ethical and legal standards, company policies, HIPAA, data security guidelines, and the Code of Business Conduct.

Nice To Haves

• Certificate from an accredited MLA program preferred.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uses predetermined criteria for quality control and assures that the technologist in charge is aware of quality results that are out of control.
• Prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols and has limited capacity to result testing.
• Performs test order entry accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient accounts.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports and reporting stat and critical value results.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
• May mentor MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
