About The Position

A Medical Laboratory Technician works under the supervision of a licensed medical technologist, pathologist or Medical Director of a CLIA approved Laboratory. They use automated and manual equipment to examine and analyze cells, blood and bodily fluids. Tasks include collecting and receiving blood, tissue, urine and other body fluid samples from patients. Samples are prepared, tested and resulted using manual or automated analyzers and computer system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Clinical/Medical laboratory technology program
  • Ability to function as a medical laboratory technician in a moderate complexity laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively with peers, co-workers and other clinic staff.
  • Must be able to pass a color vision test or functional color assessment test administered by Employee Health.
  • Technologist must inform Laboratory Administration if vision capabilities change to the extent the technician can no longer perform test(s) accurately in work area.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, tests and procedures.
  • Ability to perform procedures requiring judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal results or testing problems and discuss with Technologist, Supervisor, Manager, Physician or Medical Director.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize and effectuate repairs of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Ability to provide instruction and communicate to medical, para-medical or lay individuals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Detailed-oriented.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
  • State of Florida technician license - MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT) or MLT (AAB) in Hematology and Chemistry.
  • 3-5 Years of Clinical/medical laboratory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years pertinent clinical laboratory experience or Associate's degree with 4 years pertinent clinical laboratory experience AND one (1) year training in a Medical Technology CAHEA approved program.
  • Other subspecialties in addition to Hematology and Chemistry (for licensure).
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB National certification.
