About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and the reporting of results. This role involves following laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance. The technician will perform waived, moderately, and highly complex laboratory diagnostic tests, monitor quality control, and maintain instrumentation. Ensuring patient confidentiality and adhering to all safety protocols, including Universal Precautions and wearing required personal protective equipment, are critical. The role also requires computer proficiency for data entry and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director.

Requirements

  • ASCP MLT Certification
  • Associate's Degree
  • Meet CLIA guidelines for testing personnel
  • Performance of OSHA Category 1 tasks involving exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Daily tasks involving walking, standing, reaching, lifting, and bending
  • Acuity working with multiple laboratory machines and equipment
  • Background & Drug Screening Mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of results.
  • Follow laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintenance of records.
  • Keep records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are handled in the same way as patient samples.
  • Perform laboratory diagnostics tests, which are waived, moderately and highly complex.
  • Monitor the quality control of tests and instruments.
  • Maintain all instrumentation used and document any daily maintenance required.
  • Maintain all laboratory policies and procedures regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's Quality Control policies and document all QC activities including instrument calibrations.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correct the problem or notify the supervisor.
  • Follow all Universal Precautions.
  • Wear the required uniform and safety protection equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats while working in designated areas.
  • Maintain onboarding and annual training on Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, OSHA, First Aid, and all required safety manuals.
  • Computer proficiency for data entry and accuracy in Life Points and other systems.
  • Clean and organize the stations and specimen storage areas.
  • Perform additional duties as instructed by the Director.
