About The Position

The Medical Lab Technician works in the General Laboratory and performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests used by physicians to diagnose and treat patients. This is a full-time position scheduled for 72 hours per pay period on the night shift at LeConte Medical Center, a 79-bed community hospital within Covenant Health in Sevier County.

Requirements

• No minimum experience specified.
• Must hold a state license or be eligible for one.
• Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the required license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned routine and specialized laboratory tests for which trained.
• Runs, maintains, and/or repairs laboratory equipment.
• Performs and documents quality control samples in the assigned work area.
• Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments.
• Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard formulas and procedures.
• Answers phones and responds to physician inquiries regarding laboratory results.
• Maintains records, reports, statistics, logs, and files required by accreditation and regulatory agencies.
• Performs all functions of a senior laboratory assistant as required.
• Receives or collects specimens; organizes and prioritizes work; identifies and labels specimens.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards; completes required annual education assignments; works toward goals and objectives; and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
