About The Position

This is a full-time Medical Lab Technician position with a shift of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with alternating weekends. The role involves performing various laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, data entry, and troubleshooting instrument and computer issues.

Requirements

  • Medical Lab Technician qualification
  • Ability to perform lab testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation
  • Proficiency in checking quality control
  • Experience with computer systems for work lists, editing results, and data entry
  • Ability to confirm abnormal results and report rare/improbable results to a supervisor
  • Skill in processing specimens and logging requisitions
  • Experience reviewing specimen management reports
  • Ability to assist with inventory management and ensure compliance with state requirements for documentation
  • Troubleshooting skills for client, instrument, and computer issues
  • Experience performing maintenance on automated laboratory instrumentation
  • Ability to record and maintain QC records
  • Proficiency in data entry of results
  • Ability to ensure QC is within appropriate limits and report problems
  • Skill in reviewing work lists and analyzer output for accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to perform differentials and urine sediments
  • Capability to perform clerical functions related to specimen integrity, testing, identification, and reporting

Responsibilities

  • Performs lab testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation.
  • Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results.
  • Calls work lists on the computer, does editing of results and data enters test results.
  • Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any “rare and improbable” test results to the attention of a supervisor.
  • Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
  • Reviews daily specimen management reports.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
  • Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
  • Performs maintenance on the automated Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis instrumentation as needed.
  • Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed.
  • Data enters results into the computer.
  • Ensures that QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to supervisor.
  • Reviews work lists and work from automated analyzers to ensure accuracy and timely reporting of patient results.
  • Performs differentials and urine sediments as needed.
  • Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities.
  • Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing.
