About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement. This position is part of Intermountain Health’s Internal Travel Program, which gives caregivers the chance to combine meaningful work with exciting new experiences. Caregivers in this program enjoy dynamic travel assignments across the Intermountain Health system, spanning Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana. Each assignment is an 8-14 week rotation, providing variety, professional growth, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in diverse communities across all regions. Housing Reimbursement may be available if working 50 miles or more from home, with amounts based on the assigned site location and requiring receipts submitted within 30 days of the transaction date. This is a Full-Time position (36-40 hours per week) with variable shifts and may require participation in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of an accredited MLT program along with national certification, MLT (ASCP or approved accrediting agency), or equivalent (military) certification as determined by Manager. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLT program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Montana Sites must have Montana State License: Can apply for temporary state license if waiting to sit for BOC.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laboratory information systems.
  • Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and appropriate testing on laboratory specimens/collections according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Report results in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimen/product problems using standard laboratory technique as required.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, as needed maintenance and calibrations on instruments and equipment to meet all quality requirements.
  • Conduct verification tests on new products, instruments, procedures which includes comparisons, statistical analysis as requested.
  • Maintain workflow in clinical laboratory through proficiency in testing and maintaining work areas, supply stock, monitoring and assistance in management of inventory.
