About The Position

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is responsible for accurately processing, analyzing, and reporting laboratory results in a timely manner with minimal supervision, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. The technician comprehends and follows procedural guidelines in performance of laboratory tests, including quality control monitoring, computer applications, instrumentation troubleshooting, and specimen collection and processing requirements. The Medical Technologist (MT) will exercise professional judgment in the performance and interpretation of laboratory tests while following established procedures, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. The MT is capable of performing and interpreting standard, complex, and specialized tests, and has an understanding of quality assurance sufficient to implement and monitor quality control programs. The MT can assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program or related field (for MLT).
  • MT /MLS with preferred ASCP certification or BS degree in biological science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; and ASCP certification (for MT).
  • Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) through HEW (for MT).
  • Already functioning as an MLT within HVHS (Grandfathered) as of June 2004 (for MLT).
  • Already functioning as an MT within HVHS (Grandfathered) as of June 2004 (for MT).
