About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs laboratory testing on blood, tissue, and other biological specimens to assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring patients. The MLT is responsible for accurate specimen processing, testing, documentation, quality control, and compliance with laboratory safety standards.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a recognized certifying agent or eligible for registry as a Medical Laboratory Technician is required

Responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, identify, and process patient specimens according to established procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and blood banking, based on laboratory assignment.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Perform quality-control procedures and verify test results for accuracy.
  • Recognize abnormal or critical laboratory values and follow appropriate notification procedures.
  • Prepare specimens and reagents for testing and ensure proper storage and handling.
  • Enter and document laboratory results accurately in the laboratory information system (LIS) and EMR.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and report malfunctions or testing issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures, safety protocols, infection-control standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing, quality control, calibration, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate supplies and reagents are available.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate with Medical Laboratory Scientists/Technologists, pathologists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in continuous quality-improvement activities and competency assessments.
