About The Position

The Medical Lab Technician gathers information to assist staff members in diagnosing patients. This can include carrying out tests related to immunology, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or blood bank.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or related field required.
  • Certification from approved medical society such as American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) within one year of employment preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of hospital laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, prepare, and analyze blood, urine, tissue samples, and body fluids for analysis tests requested by authorized providers.
  • Examine collected samples and identify any cell abnormalities.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory levels and place orders for new supplies as necessary.
  • Prepare detailed reports about test results and findings.
  • Document and review tested data using the current hospital information system.
  • Ensure all tissue samples are prepared for examination.
  • Collaborate with pathologists.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Present test results to physicians.
  • Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids.
  • Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells.
  • Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment by performing scheduled maintenance and repairs as necessary.
  • Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect the hospital by keeping information confidential.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results tasks as needed.
  • Report to and depart from work on time and as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Deal with stress while maintaining composure.
  • Follow and adhere to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
