About The Position

This is a Faculty 12-month, Unclassified appointment within the Academic Affairs department, specifically in the Nursing, Allied Health & Safety sub-department at Louisiana Delta Community College. The role involves managing laboratory supplies, equipment, and technologies, preparing for instructional use, developing and implementing laboratory policies, performing quality control, coordinating equipment maintenance, and upholding safety standards. The position also requires collaboration with faculty and the Program Director to develop laboratory schedules and identify needs supporting curriculum and student learning. A key aspect is coordinating with clinical education sites and affiliates to ensure successful student clinical experiences. The role includes developing innovative learning opportunities, assisting with recruitment, and teaching a yearly instructional load of 24 credit hours of Medical Laboratory Technician coursework. Adherence to the LDCC Standards of Practice is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Lab Sciences or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Professional experience working in medical laboratory settings, demonstrating expertise across core disciplines such as clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and blood banking.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Proficiency in utilizing instructional technologies and software to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively engage and support students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Clear dedication to student success and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to promote program excellence and student achievement.
  • Proven commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning within the field of medical lab sciences.
  • Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current inventories of laboratory supplies, equipment, technologies, and software to ensure accessibility and functionality for faculty and students.
  • Inventory, organize, and monitor expendable laboratory supplies on a regular basis and submit timely requests for needed materials to support program operations.
  • Prepare laboratory equipment, supplies, reagents, and learning stations for instructional and student laboratory use.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory policy and procedure manuals in accordance with program, institutional, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform and document routine quality control, calibration, and maintenance procedures on laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment service contracts, vendor relationships, repairs, and preventative maintenance for laboratory instrumentation and technologies.
  • Uphold laboratory quality assurance and safety standards, including compliance with biohazard disposal, infection control, and waste management regulations.
  • Coordinate with college maintenance services and external vendors to maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within laboratory facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty to develop laboratory schedules that maximize utilization of laboratory spaces and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to identify laboratory needs that support curriculum design, instructional effectiveness, and student learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with clinical education sites to support student clinical placement experiences and program needs.
  • Assist with communication and coordination between the college and clinical affiliates to ensure successful clinical experiences for students.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, faculty, and community partners to develop innovative laboratory and clinical learning opportunities throughout the academic year.
  • Assist with recruitment activities by collaborating with the Program Director to provide laboratory tours and informational experiences for prospective students.
  • Teach a yearly instructional load of 24 credit hours, typically 12 credit hours per semester of Medical Laboratory Technician coursework, including lecture and/or laboratory instruction as assigned.
  • Demonstrate and adhere to the LDCC Standards of Practice.
