About The Position

The Medical Lab Tech collects and handles clinical specimens, performs laboratory tests, operates laboratory equipment, and reports results under the supervision of a medical technologist. The role requires providing care appropriate to patients’ ages, understanding growth and development, and assessing and interpreting patient-status information to identify age-specific needs.

The position performs accurate and timely testing to support quality patient care, follows CLIA laboratory guidelines, and uses safe laboratory practices. The employee communicates effectively, troubleshoots laboratory equipment using available resources, and manages competing tasks to maintain an efficient workflow. Performance expectations are addressed during orientation and preceptor phases.

Requirements

• Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or equivalent.
• No work experience required.
• At hire, must have MLT (ASCP), CLT (NCA), eligibility for one of these credentials, or equivalent credentials.
• Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, communicate effectively, cooperate with others, perform test and quality-control procedures, report results, perform repetitive tasks, follow directions precisely, and solve problems.

• Perform tests precisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
• Follow CLIA laboratory guidelines.
• Communicate through notes, email, and proper phone etiquette.
• Provide care appropriate to patients’ age-specific needs.
