About The Position

This position involves performing laboratory tests and reporting results accurately and efficiently in compliance with laboratory policies. The role requires validation of test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to ensure accurate reports for physician review. Data entry into the computer system may also be required. The Medical Lab Tech will also be responsible for LIS functions, quality control, inventory management, and troubleshooting instrument or equipment issues. Sample preparation, reagent preparation, and maintenance of laboratory materials are also key duties. In some instances, operation of a blood irradiator may be required, necessitating FBI security clearance.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related scientific field.
  • ASCP registry or registry eligible or equivalent registry (NCA or CLS).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of laboratory science.
  • Minimal computer skills.
  • May require an FBI check prior to beginning employment, with results deeming the individual Trustworthy and Reliable.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and qualifications of personnel trained outside of the US must be evaluated to determine equivalency to an education obtained in the United States. The equivalency evaluation must be performed by a nationally recognized organization, such as NACES and AICE.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests and reports results with appropriate documentation in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, complying with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Validates test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for accurate report generation.
  • Performs LIS functions including worklists, outstanding reports, and patient registration.
  • Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established criteria before release.
  • Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results, taking appropriate action.
  • Reports low supply inventory to appropriate staff and informs personnel when supplies fall below par level.
  • Recognizes and evaluates instrument or equipment failures, troubleshooting or contacting necessary individuals for corrective action.
  • Prepares samples appropriately for testing.
  • Prepares and labels stains, reagents, and stock solutions according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintains glassware and other materials necessary for clinical laboratory tests.
  • May be required to operate a blood irradiator requiring FBI security clearance.
