About The Position

Urology of Virginia is seeking an experienced Medical Lab Technician, Medical Laboratory Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work in their large specialty group's Clinical Lab. This position involves day shift hours, Monday through Friday, with flexible weekend hours for microbiology on a rotating basis for those fully independent in microbiology. The role is 40 hours per week and is integral to providing comprehensive, high-quality care in a compassionate and patient-focused environment, aligning with the company's core values of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate in Applied Science, Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution w/ 3 years relevant clinical laboratory experience, Microbiology preferred
  • Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP/Board certified (board eligible considered)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Scientist from an accredited institution w/ 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience, Microbiology preferred
  • Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Scientist ASCP/Board certified (board eligible considered)

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiology tests for urine cultures, utilizing both manual and automated methods, as appropriate by CLIA high complexity testing personnel requirements and CLSI standards.
  • Perform quality control procedures as outlined by lab procedures, with troubleshooting and resolution of outliers, as needed.
  • Participate in the performance of proficiency testing on all applicable lab tests.
  • Crosstrain to other areas of the laboratory as deemed appropriate and necessary.
  • Maintain proper documentation as described in the quality assurance program, to include equipment records, maintenance logs, e-worksheets, specimen rejection documentation and quality control logs.
  • Utilize and maintain specimen logs, worksheets, and laboratory reports in Orchard lab information system (LIS).
  • Manage patient lab results, providing accurate final reports to the ordering provider in a timely manner.
  • Provide lab support to medical staff as needed, regarding specimen collection requirements, testing procedures, training, and other issues as needed.
  • Accession and process lab specimens as outlined in lab procedures.
  • Use Epic EMR for communication with providers and staff regarding lab results, specimen rejection, provider orders, etc.
  • Assist with other projects as directed by the lab supervisor, including but not limited to: validations, special reports, and reference (send-out) lab issues.
  • Maintain all laboratory equipment with appropriate documentation.
  • Stock and monitor usage of laboratory supplies and reagents; to ensure adequate inventory of laboratory supplies is maintained.
  • Perform all duties according to current CLIA and OSHA regulations.
