About The Position

Frederick Health is seeking a full-time Medical Lab Tech/ Medical Technician. This role supports the Frederick Health mission, vision, and core values, adhering to the Compliance Program and Standards of Behavior. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures accurately and efficiently, covering the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases of the Laboratory Path of Workflow. This position may involve delegating work assignments in the absence of a supervisor or lead and must comply with CLIA standards for high and moderate complexity testing personnel.

Requirements

Working knowledge of general laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.), keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers.
Basic computer skills required.
Associate’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), OR Associate’s degree in a laboratory-related science (Biology or Chemistry) with equivalent training, education, and experience (e.g., military training).
ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MLT certification or equivalent categorical certification required.
One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience required for laboratory science Associate’s Degree (e.g., Biology or Chemistry).
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in all age groups.

Nice To Haves

One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience preferred with Associate’s degree and completion of a Medical Technology program.

Responsibilities

Performs moderate/high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director, requiring skills commensurate with education, training, and experience.
Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
Performs and maintains records for proficiency testing samples, ensuring they are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
Adheres to laboratory quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
Follows established policies and procedures when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting and either corrects them or immediately notifies the appropriate supervisor or director.
Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
