About The Position

Monroe Hospital, a 32-bed community hospital in Bloomington, Indiana, and a member of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join its award-winning team. The MLT will perform waived, highly, and moderately complex testing in accordance with CLIA regulations.

Requirements

  • 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
  • Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, highly, and moderately complex testing as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or immediately notify a supervisor.
  • Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  • Perform and document maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed) on instruments and equipment.
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and prohibit collaboration with other laboratories before reporting results.
  • May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, may be assigned as Lead Tech, with responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
