The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing waived, highly, and moderately complex testing as defined by CLIA regulations. This role requires a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training, experience, and technical abilities. The MLT must adhere to all laboratory procedures for sample collection, processing, analysis, and reporting, as well as quality control policies. They must be capable of identifying and resolving issues that may affect test performance or immediately notifying their supervisor. The technician will perform tests using both manual and automated methods across various disciplines including Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology. Maintenance of instruments and equipment, review of patient results for accuracy, and recognition of age-specific differences in expected results are also key responsibilities. Proficiency testing must be conducted in the same manner as patient samples, with no collaboration prior to reporting. The role may involve performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all age groups. Additionally, the MLT will assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures, adhere to all safety, infection control, and HR policies, and may be assigned Lead Tech responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor. Other tasks may be assigned by management.
