About The Position

Piedmont Rockdale Hospital is hiring a PRN, day-shift Medical Lab Scientist. The role independently performs laboratory procedures for which the technologist has been trained and has demonstrated competency. The scientist performs laboratory testing on patients of all ages, applying professional knowledge of laboratory procedures to execute, interpret, and/or analyze results accurately and promptly. The role also oversees the technical activities of the section or department when the lead or supervisor is absent.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, plus sufficient college and/or technical school coursework and clinical training to satisfy testing and certification requirements for a medical technologist through an approved certifying agency.
Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by ASCP, AMT, or AAB, in accordance with Georgia Department of Community Health clinical laboratory regulations; required upon hire.
A person who recently moved into Georgia may be temporarily classified as a technologist for up to 18 months to complete an approved qualifying examination.
AAB provisional certification is not accepted.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or a life or biological science such as biology, biochemistry, or microbiology.
Three years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

Independently perform laboratory testing on patients of all ages.
Execute, interpret, and/or analyze laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.
Oversee the technical activities of the section or department in the absence of the lead or supervisor.
