About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens and provides physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires a thorough understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to ensure patient safety and anonymity. This position is in the Core Laboratory at Clermont Hospital. It is scheduled for 40 hours per week on afternoons/evenings.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification through a nationally recognized certification agency.

Nice To Haves

Certification through ASCP is preferred.
Completed externship program.

Responsibilities

Perform analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, following documented laboratory procedures.
Determine whether specimens are acceptable by visual inspection or recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action according to protocols.
Perform quality control for all testing and ensure results meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
