About The Position

Responsible for collecting, processing, and performing testing of patient specimens. Supports and communicates Laboratory initiatives and philosophies. Performs routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing. Collects, Processes and Receives specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) to be analyzed in all departments of the clinical laboratory. Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens of analysis of all age ranges. Prepares samples for testing and sends out to reference laboratories. Maintains laboratory equipment and stocks supplies. Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles under direct supervision per CLIA requirements. Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision. Assists in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance. Participates in training programs, accreditation activities, comparison studies and validation of new equipment. Assists in troubleshooting and resolving instrument failures. Oversees quality control programs and proficiency testing. Works closely with supervisors on laboratory operations. Assists with regulatory compliance and inspections. Serves as a mentor to fellow coworkers. Provides continuing education for staff. Assists in writing and revising laboratory procedures. Supervises daily operations and serves as a key operator for testing platforms. Leads troubleshooting and quality improvement initiatives. Ensures adherence to CAP, CLIA, and hospital regulations. Collaborates with leadership on new testing implementation. Assists in maintaining accreditation and compliance documentation. Serves as a subject matter expert in one or more lab disciplines. Completes department-required continuing education annually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or Associates Degree for grandfathered personnel)
  • MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification required
  • 5+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Leadership and technical expertise.
