This Medical Lab Scientist role is PRN Nights. Requirements

  • Bachelors Medical Technology or Bachelors Medical Science or Bachelors General or Masters Other / Related Field-Preferred
  • MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist or MT(AMT) - Medical Technologist or MT(AAB) - Medical Technologist or MT(HEW) - Medical Technologist or MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist or MLS(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Scientist or MB(ASCP) - Molecular Biologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology or H(ASCP) - Hematology - American Society for Clinical Pathology or M(ASCP) - Microbiology - American Society for Clinical Pathology
  • Persons who possess the technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state and certified by that state (with NY, FL, CA license) or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements from an accredited MLS program may be temporarily classified once as technologists for eighteen (18) months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required
  • Minimum 1 year Laboratory experience Required
  • Computer/data entry experience.
  • Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
  • Ability to use EXCEL, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.
  • Meets department standard for correct patient or specimen identification.
  • Meets department standard for error rate in testing or reporting patient or QC results.
  • Consistently documents investigation and correct interpretation of QA failures or trends.
  • Earns acceptable scores in proficiency testing and personnel competency testing.
  • Maintains instrumentation for testing.
  • Uses clinical/ theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data.
  • Reports lab data accurately and within established turnaround times and productivity standards.
  • Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations.
  • Interprets information from multiple sources.
  • Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members.
  • Complies with Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test status.
  • Documents in the LIS all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure.
  • Hands-off information to others according to the department procedure and chain of command.
  • Adheres to WellStars Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion.
  • Takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism.
  • Contributes to the Laboratory's Performance Improvements and inspection readiness.
  • Assists in analysis of new methods for testing including correlations and procedure writing.
  • Assists in inspection preparation.
  • Participates in the Laboratory Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high quality laboratory data.
  • Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge and practice of WellStar policies and procedures, including LIS.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
  • Practices all Wellstar and Laboratory Safety Standards.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, task forces and project teams.
  • Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
