About The Position

Individuals are responsible to perform diagnostic and analytic testing on human specimens to produce sound, reliable data to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. The role involves working in one or more laboratory disciplines under the supervision of a department manager, supervisor, senior technologist, or delegated in-charge individual. Employees must demonstrate competencies specific to the populations served. The position requires the ability to operate and perform basic computer programs for documentation and record keeping, and to understand and participate in all aspects of clinical laboratory testing: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. Anticipating and maintaining required inventory (supplies, reagents, etc.) is crucial to ensure uninterrupted testing. The role demands the ability to work under specific time constraints and communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization. Adherence to Bronson's Standards and Plan for Excellence, and all laboratory established policies and procedures is expected. Responsibilities include instrument operation and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment problems, executing and evaluating quality control and quality assurance procedures, and documenting and reporting as required by regulatory agencies. Performing, validating, interpreting, documenting, and reporting laboratory test results, as well as performing and evaluating proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples, are key duties. The ability to identify problems that may adversely affect results and resolve them appropriately is necessary. Assisting in training, orienting new staff and students, and participating in Laboratory Quality Program activities are also part of the role. Employees may be requested to alter start time, shift, department(s), and/or site depending on patient care needs. Other duties as assigned may be required, and a valid Michigan driver's license and insurability may be required depending on job duties.
