The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) III evaluates, assists in interpreting results, and analyzes blood and body fluids using both automated and complex manual methods following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes. This role involves performing high complexity testing, verifying instrument performance, and demonstrating computer system proficiency. The MLS III also ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies, assists with inventory management, and communicates critical results to patient caregivers. They utilize theoretical knowledge and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot unusual situations and contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures. Additionally, they are responsible for reporting work activities, instrument issues, and pending work at shift change, responding to technical inquiries, and assisting in the training of new team members and students. The role also includes performing specimen collection, receiving, and processing, answering the telephone, greeting guests, maintaining current job knowledge, actively participating in the laboratory quality improvement program, following regulatory requirements, practicing infection control and safety, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
