About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist II supports both the clinical diagnostic and research needs of the laboratory, performing and reporting high-complexity testing under CAP and CLIA requirements while contributing to the translational research program. Work spans all areas of the laboratory, including molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, and molecular microbiology. Routine techniques include DNA, RNA, and protein extraction and purification; quantitative PCR; Sanger and next-generation sequencing; genomic and transcriptomic analysis; and biochemical assays such as ELISA and other immunoassays. Responsibilities include assay performance and validation, quality control, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, data analysis and documentation, and inventory management. The Medical Lab Scientist II collaborates with research team leaders, senior scientists, and principal investigators across both diagnostic operations and research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field of science is required.
  • Technologist in Molecular Biology certification, MB(ASCP), from the ASCP Board of Certification is required.
  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in the applicable specialties is required at the time of hire or must be obtained per state requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing high-complexity molecular or clinical laboratory testing.
  • Hands-on work with molecular biology, microbiology, cellular biology, and immunology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and DNA sequencing.
  • Prior experience in a research laboratory.
  • Experience with CAP/CLIA quality standards.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems.
