About The Position

Under the direction of laboratory management, this role is responsible for leading all aspects of operation in the assigned section/team/department. This includes the preparation and maintenance of records, reports, policies, and procedures. The position involves analysis of testing methodologies, employee training and staffing, technical oversight, and ensuring compliance. The Lead Medical Lab Scientist works collaboratively with team members to coordinate tasks, priorities, goals, and achievements with management. Additionally, this role assists with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance within the assigned area. The primary function is to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to aid physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating, and preventing disease.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • 3 years of hospital experience Required
  • Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. Upon Hire Required
  • AAB provisional certification not accepted

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) Preferred
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience Preferred
