About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist 2 PRN to join their Laboratory - Clinical team in Nashville, Tennessee. This role involves processing and testing in various laboratory departments, adhering to laboratory policies and procedures, and maintaining an intimate knowledge of testing methods, instruments, and tools. The position also includes responsibilities in Quality Assurance, Kit Validation, Instrument Maintenance, Proficiency Testing, Environmental Monitoring, Reagent Preparation, and Diagnostic Reporting. The Medical Lab Scientist 2 PRN will also be involved in incident reporting, maintaining professional and medical ethics, confidentiality, and patient privacy. Additionally, the role requires specimen collection expertise, high complexity specialty management, and assisting Technologists and the Administrative Laboratory Director as needed. The ideal candidate will have a working understanding of medical technology, the ability to recognize problems, good communication skills, and the capacity to work well under high stress. Patient care providers must possess knowledge, training, and experience relevant to all age groups served, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (Required)
  • LIC-Medical Technologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

  • Knowledge, training, and experience competent in the following specific to the age of patients served: the ability to obtain and interpret information; a knowledge of growth and development; and an understanding of the range of treatments needed by these patients.
  • Patients served include all age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Diagnostic Testing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results.
  • Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience conducting maintenance activities in area of assignments.
  • Data Analysis (Fundamental Awareness): Has some training, exposure, or limited experience in data analysis. Assumes responsibility for routine and entry-level client analytical work. Knowledge of various reporting analytic tools, such as ACL, SQL, SAS, etc.
  • Quality Assurance (Fundamental Awareness): Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective. Demonstrates quality management practices on the job which result in superior products and services delivered.
