About The Position

The Clinical Microbiology Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a Medical Lab Assistant for the evening shift. This role is responsible for all laboratory operations. MSK is committed to advancing Laboratory Medicine through sophisticated technology, automated equipment, and a strong emphasis on applied and translational research. The new Laboratory Medicine Building enhances operational efficiency, enabling faster test results and reduced blood sample requirements. Requirements

1-2 years experience in a clinical laboratory as a Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant or related job.
High School Diploma/GED
Attention to detail
Reliability
Maintains 100% accuracy on all labeling of specimens.

Responsibilities

Prepares specimens for analyzing or sending out to another laboratory for testing.
Sort specimens according to location.
Places and sorts labeled specimens on racks/bins and transports to appropriate processing area.
Makes arrangements for pickup of specimens (e.g., main lab STAT specimens, reference laboratories).
Maintain supplies for the processing area (e.g., requisitions, special tubes, shipping labels, biohazards bags, shipping logs, etc).
Resolves specimen delivery issues for any specimens sent to another laboratory for testing.
Assists with specimen archiving, including capping of tubes and discarding of older specimens when expired.
Performs waived testing as per SOP under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Prepares specimens for sending out to another laboratory utilizing the laboratory computer system.
