About The Position

Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. (GPHA), a non-profit organization founded in 1970, is hiring Full-time Medical Interpreters to serve the evolving needs of their community. This role is crucial for assisting Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients during medical visits, appointments, and administrative tasks, ensuring accurate and impartial communication between healthcare professionals and patients. The position is based at multiple locations within Philadelphia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Social Work, or Languages with certification in Medical Interpreting.
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in other disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of medical interpreting experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a healthcare team.
  • Ability to deal with people sympathetically and effectively to obtain necessary information.
  • CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in social services (or healthcare setting) working with immigrants.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
  • NextGen experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients during medical visits, appointments, and administrative tasks.
  • Interpreting accurately and impartially without adding, omitting, or altering any information exchanged between healthcare professionals and the patient.
  • Assisting LEP clients with communication regarding lab results and appointments.
  • Coordinating referrals.
  • Performing psychological evaluations.
  • Documenting patient encounters.
  • Participating in group health education activities and counseling sessions as needed.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethical standards while interpreting.
