About The Position

Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin is seeking a Medical Interpreter - Spanish for a 1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week position. The incumbent will provide interpreter services during clinic visits, conduct telephone outreach and follow-up for appointment arrangements, interpretation, translation, and facilitate transportation. This role involves working closely with all departments to assist members and patients with language access needs, navigating the GHC-SCW system, and resolving service issues. Requirements

  • Resident of the state of Wisconsin.
  • At least six months of medical interpretation experience.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year experience providing medical interpretation services, or equivalent.
  • National certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreting (CCHI) or the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing interpretation and translation in second language/English language.
  • Familiarity with different dialects or regional variations of the second language, if applicable.
  • Possession of a valid State of Wisconsin Driver license.
  • Access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Access to a cellular phone for work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population.
  • Excellent customer services skills.
  • Ability to be culturally sensitive and approach members and patients and others in a non-intimidating and supportive manner.
  • Knowledge and/or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn and use various computer programs including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Willingness to learn the use of Epic for scheduling and documentation purposes.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen, troubleshoot, and be flexible.
  • Ability to work efficiently and under stressful situations and harmoniously and cooperatively with the public and all GHC-SCW personnel.
  • Ability to understand and work closely with community contacts and resources.
  • Ability to function independently in order to meet organizational goals.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet customer needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Post high school education is desirable.
  • Experience in an acute care or clinic setting is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain CCHI or CMI certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing interpreter services during clinic visits.
  • Conducting telephone outreach and follow-up to members and patients for arranging appointments, interpretation, and translation.

  • Helping members and patients navigate the GHC-SCW system.
  • Helping to solve service issues when needed.
  • Providing consecutive phone interpretation when needed.
  • Providing occasional simultaneous interpretation.
  • Representing GHC-SCW in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Maintaining organizational and patient confidentiality.
  • Understanding and abiding by all GHC-SCW organizational and departmental policies.
