Medical Interpreter, Spanish
About The Position
Harborview Medical Center’s Interpreter Services Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Interpreter 1, Spanish. This role enables patients to access medical care and is part of a team dedicated to improving language access. The Medical Interpreter will provide oral, sight, and written interpretation for the Spanish language, transmitting information accurately between patient and provider or staff. They will encourage direct communication between patient and provider or staff and manage the complexity of cross-cultural encounters. Sight translation in the presence of a provider and/or other medical staff and assistance to patients in completing medical, financial, or other forms are also key responsibilities.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Two years interpretation experience in a clinic or hospital setting
- Medical interpreter certification or qualification either from Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
